How to make my hair look healthier?
Question by Alex: How to make my hair look healthier?
Im a 15 year old guy. For the past four years I’ve normally had product in my hair to stick it up ETC. But my hair is normally very dry, thick and normally little individual strands of hair stick up, almost like friction. I look at my mates who has smooth hair which looks much healthier. What am I doing wrong.
I used to use just basic supermarket Shampoo, conditioner (more recently Pantene, the one for dry hair) and also product…..but in the past year have used a salon hair product for my hair which is expensive called XTAH Sebastian modelador clay. But this probably isn’t good either, I have been in the past fortnight since getting my hair cut, mixed different products in my hair. The expensive clay and a cheap wax. SHOULD I BE DOING THIS???
I basically have product in my hair everyday, and I play a lot of sport and have trainings everyday. I normally have two showers a day and used to shampoo and condition twice a day is this two much?
Should I be putting the shampoo and conditioner in at once and do it together or separate? When I dry my hair should I dry It well or let it just air dry out?
Which Shampoos and conditioners should I buy and do you know of any that I could get in New Zealand. Which products are best? Wax, Gel, Clay, Moouse?
Any tips would be really helpful! THANKS

Shampooing every day is bad, and two times is worse.
I know that dries hair from experience. I’ve seen my friend’s hair go from healthy to dry because she showered her hair twice a day.
What I recommend is olive oil.
You put it on your dry hair, leave on for an hour, then put shampoo in your hair DRY, like not wet yet and with the olive oil. Massage in your hair, then rinse and continue what you normally do. (once a week) I saw really good results witht his technique, maybe it works for you.
Try not to put so much products in your hair, and when you do put alot, leave some conditioner in your hair so at least it’s conditioning it a bit.
And I thin mousse is better than gel. My sister uses it every day and her hair is not dry at all. and it’s always better to let air dry.

I’m not sure what they have in New Zealand but a glaze (John Freida) would be great to enhance hair.
Try not to shampoo everytime you shower. I know this sounds weird but baby shampoo is actually alot healthier for your hair then normal shampoo.
Just remember not to use too much product in your hair because that looks the worse
Good luck
First, stop wasting your money on expensive salon shampoos.
You need to do what every woman knows to do (or should) when her hair has gotten unhealthy. Stop messing with it. Stop using product, stop blow drying–everything. Also, don’t wash your hair as much. Use as little shampoo as possible and forget the part of the instructions that say ‘repeat’. Use just a little conditioner too; what makes conditioner work is the actual rinsing it out part anyway. If you shower more than once a day, try not shampooing every time. You might get away with just getting your hair wet and towel-drying it.
Also, if you’ve really damaged your hair rather than just having gunked it up with product, go get a fresh haircut. Get something that eliminates most of your hair so you can start fresh; also get something that’s going to look okay without any product or blow-drying.
Good luck.
Well, the cause could possibly be the gells you usually put in your hair. It seems it has gotten rough that way. I have pretty dry hair as well, but I use something called Head & Shoulders. It is great and proven to be better than salon brands. Helps with Dandruff (if you have any), Dry hair, and gives it a shine. For Shampoos, they also have Head & Shoulders shampoo.
PS: Head & Shoulders is a little stronger so you shouldn’t use it EVERY day. Other days you should use things lik Tresseme and your ordinary Pantene. Try 1 every 2 days or so.
To improve your hair you can:
-Use shampoo and conditioning products due to your hair type.
-Use hair treatments that can boost your hair (make it shiny, softer etc)
-Let your hair dry etc naturally. If you prefer to blow dry, straighten or curl, use a heat protection product.
